As one of the keynote speakers at the 1st International Congress on the Pedagogy of Death and Educational Development, I am honored to present my address titled “Empowering Teachers to Navigate Death Education in the Classroom – Addressing Challenges and Exploring Opportunities.” In my speech, I will delve into the pivotal role educators play in guiding students through the complex topics of grief, loss, and death. I will discuss the challenges teachers often encounter, such as emotional preparedness, resource limitations, and the sensitivity required when addressing these subjects. Emphasizing the necessity for comprehensive training and support, I will explore innovative strategies for integrating death education into curricula. My goal is to empower fellow educators to approach these difficult topics with confidence and compassion, fostering environments where students feel safe to express their emotions and engage in meaningful discussions about death.
