Perspectives on Death Education and the Pedagogy of Death

-

I am delighted to share my contribution to the new edited volume Perspectives on Death Education and the Pedagogy of Death, in which I co-authored Chapter 4: Integrating Death Education into School Curricula: Challenges and Prospects.

This book is one of the most comprehensive collective works in Europe dedicated to Death Education and the Pedagogy of Death. Bringing together cultural perspectives from Spain, Scotland, Italy, Turkey, and Cyprus, it offers theoretical foundations, curriculum approaches, educational practices, and research that advance the field while highlighting the importance of integrating death education into schools.

I am especially proud that Cyprus is represented through more than a decade of research, teacher professional learning, and educational practice in death education. Our chapter presents the work developed through the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute, demonstrating how teachers can be supported to integrate death education into school curricula with confidence, pedagogical sensitivity, and critical reflection.

My sincere gratitude goes to the editors, Pablo Rodríguez Herrero and Agustín de la Herrán Gascón, whose pioneering scholarship and leadership have made this volume an important milestone for the international development of the field.

I hope this book will become a valuable reference for researchers, educators, and students, while encouraging further dialogue, collaboration, and educational action towards a more compassionate and grief-literate education.
