Σ’ ωκεανούς που μας φέρνουν λύπη και θυμό και δάκρυα στα μάτια. Ιστορίες\, που φαίνεται να μένουν στη μέση\, θα μας δείξουν ποιοι άνεμοι φουσκώνουν τα πανιά\, όταν όλα αλλάζουν αναπάντεχα\, και τι βοηθά το σκάφος του καραβιού να επιπλέει. Όταν τα “εμείς” μένουν μισά και τα “είναι” μας γίνονται “ήταν”\, πώς ξανασυναντιέται κανείς με το “τώρα” του;

SUMMARY:Death Education - Good Practice
DESCRIPTION:The value of Death Education in schools is to enable pupils to recognize and cope with loss and grief\, to become more aware of their mortality\, and to fully embrace their lives. Death Education provides pupils with opportunities to explore the subject of death and loss both intellectually and affectively\, to examine how culture and diversity affect understanding of death and loss\, and to delve into the moral\, religious\, spiritual\, and ethical issues involved in death and loss. \nThe seminar aims to provide teachers with educational tools through which they can discuss issues of loss and grief with pupils in a school setting. The purpose of this seminar is twofold: to give opportunities of experiential approach to proposed lesson plans and to theoretically frame the area of Death Education. The proposed educational tools will be based mainly on children’s books and films as well as on independent activities which can be spread throughout the school year.

SUMMARY:Death Education in elementary school: Teachers’ perceptions and affective experiences of an in-service training program in Cyprus
DESCRIPTION:Due to the Covid-19 pandemic\, the need for Death Education is more pronounced than ever. The purpose of this paper is to analyze elementary school teachers’ perceptions and affective experiences of an in-service training on death education taught by the first author over three years at the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute. The teacher training focused on how to teach about issues of death\, loss\, and grief at the elementary school. The article examines what drives teachers to participate in the training and describes their concerns and dilemmas of engaging with issues of death\, loss\, and grief in their teaching. The study\, which is based on an action research methodology\, also explores teachers’ reflections on their pedagogical efforts to design and implement a lesson plan in which issues of death\, loss\, and grief are included. Its results have several implications for teachers’ professional development on Death Education. \nThis presentation is based on a project Professor Michalinos Zembylas and I have worked on: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/00933104.2020.1841700 \n \nPainting by Juan Lucena in memory of all grandparents lost due to Covid 19\, who couldn’t say goodbye to their grandchildren.

DESCRIPTION:Το Πρόγραμμα απευθύνεται σε ανθρώπους που καλούνται να αντιμετωπίσουν την αρρώστια\, την απώλεια και τον θάνατο στο εργασιακό τους περιβάλλον και στην καθημερινή τους ζωή (εν ενεργεία και αδιόριστοι εκπαιδευτικοί όλων των ειδικοτήτων\, νοσηλευτικό και ιατρικό προσωπικό\, κοινωνικοί λειτουργοί\, εργαζόμενοι/ες σε δομές και ιδρύματα\, πολίτες που επιθυμούν να εξοικειωθούν με τις συγκεκριμένες δεξιότητες ζωής). \nΗ Παιδαγωγική της Απώλειας και του Θανάτου (Θαναταγωγική) έχει στόχο να προάγει τη θετική συναισθηματική ανάπτυξη και την ικανότητα αντιμετώπισης δύσκολων/οδυνηρών πλευρών της ανθρώπινης ζωής σε ατομικό και κοινωνικό επίπεδο μέσα από βιωματικές εκπαιδευτικές δραστηριότητες.
